===============================
I would like to thank my beta testers, for if it weren't for their
diligent bug-finding, the quality of this software would certainly have
suffered. Thanks to Annie and to Geoff! Their input has been highly
appreciated. Very Special thanks go to Judi Hunter, who has helped
develop the ideas used in DRUGLORD, and who has put up with my coding
sessions late into the night with nary a complaint. Couldn't have done
it without you!

=================================
Welcome to the world of drugs, crime, and murder. You start the
game in the late 80's to early 90's as a small-time drug-dealer with
big-time ambitions. Your goal is to work your way up the drug-dealing
ranks, making unimaginable profits along the way, facing what may seem
to be unbeatable odds, and eventually becoming a DRUGLORD. Many things
will stand in your way. The cops will try to shut down your operation
by shutting YOU down. Street thugs can jump out of nowhere and mug you.
Even one of your own guys can turn narc and blackmail you!
During all this, you must make profitable drug deals. Buying
low and selling high is the rule of the game. Make a bad deal, and you
could be financially washed-out. If you need extra money, you might
want to consider the local loan-shark, but the interest he charges is
outrageous! As you make more deals your status will improve, giving
you more capabilities in the game. Unfortunately, your increasing power
in the area also catches the attention of the cops.
Eventually, you will attain such a high status that you just want
to retire and spend some of that money that you made. At that point,
you will have won the game.

(Q)uit de game
Hers's a list of yer possible plans, dude:
(B)uy Drugs, (V)isit the Bank,
(S)ell Drugs, Go to de (H)ospital,
(J)et to another city, See de (L)oan Shark
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Heres a list of definitions:
Date This is today's date. Each action usually takes one day,
such as traveling, buying, selling, and going to see the
loan shark.
Drugs on Hand This is the list of drugs that you own.
Street Prices These are the going prices for drugs. Each price
represents the rate for 1 unit of the drug.
Location The city that you are currently in.
Hold This is the maximum amount of drugs that you can hold at
any one time.
Cash This is the cash that you are carrying.
In Bank This is your money in the bank. Your account does accrue
interest.
In Debt This is the amount that you owe to the loan shark. If
you have a debt to him, it will show how many days you
have left to pay him in parenthesis.
# of Guns This is the number of guns that you currently own.
Gun Type This is the type of gun you own (Saturday Night Special,
Auto Mag, etc.)
Status Pts This is the number of status points that you have
accumulated in the game. The more points, the more power
you have.
Health This shows how healthy you are. A score of 100 means
you are in perfect health, a score of 0 or below means
you are a corpse.
(B)uy Drugs You will be asked for type and amount of drugs you wish
to purchase from your supplier.
(S)ell Drugs You will be asked for type and amount of drugs you want
to sell to a buyer.
(J)et You will be prompted for which city you wish to travel
to. The cost of flying there is listed next to the
location. The farther you have to travel, the more the
ticket costs. Possible cities are: Chicago, Detroit,
Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, San Diego, and
Washington D.C.
(V)isit Bank For depositing and withdrawing cash. Don't worry about
the feds noticing your strange financial activity, this
bank is tied to your private Swiss bank accounts. Your
money can't be touched here.
(H)ospital If you're wounded, you can recuperate in the Hospital,
if you can afford it. The time you'll be in there
depends on the nature of your wounds. If you have less
than 100 health points, you should consider a visit.
(L)oan Shark If you want a little financial backing, you can see the
loan shark. The more clout you possess (status), the
more money the loan shark will loan you (and the longer
you have to pay it back!). If you decide to welch on
your deal with him, though, watch your back!
If you find yourself being chased by the cops, you have several
options. Having a friend around to help you out can be great (which
will cost you 1 status point), but if your status is high enough, a
posse (5 status points) can really turn the tides on them! If it ends
up that you have to run, the more of you that are running, the less
chance that they'll catch YOU! Watch out for your guys, though; if they
die fighting your battle for you, that makes YOU look bad.
The goal of the game is to attain 300 or more status points. At
that point, you will be presented with your overall score, based on your
total profit, ability to make good deals, and the time it took you (in
days) to win. It also doesn't hurt to have a good stash of guns. You
will then be given a title which reflects your score, ranging from
"Pusher" for a low score to ?????? (Play and find out!!!) These
instructions are purposfully vague, so you can have fun finding out the
intricacies of the game for yourself.
Other Notes and Hints:
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
■ One of the biggest ways to gain status is to make profitable drug
deals. Watch for good opportunities such as cheap homemade drugs
flooding the market. Selling at a high price is always desireable,
such as when a drug factory blows up and makes drugs scarce; you
can make up a bundle! Each city is different, with some drug
prices naturally lower than the norm and some being higher, based
on availability of supplies and international connections. As you
play, keep an eye out for these trends.
■ Every once in a while, you may be offered guns to purchase. You
must have the available cash ON YOU at the time of the offering to
buy them (as this sort of market moves fast).
■ You will always start with a holding capacity of 10, meaning you
are holding your product in the pockets of your jeans. You may be
approached by a stranger who wants to sell you a trenchcoat. They
are expensive, but they increase the amount you can hold at one
time.
■ There are five types of guns you may obtain, described below:
Type of Weapon Description
────────────────────── ────────────────────────────────
Saturday Night Special .22 cal, poor penetration
Ruger Revolver .38 cal, good penetration
Auto Mag .44 cal, excellent penetration
* Uzi 9mm, very good penetration
* AK-47 Assault Rifle 5.45mm, excellent penetration
Weapons listed with an '*' indicate an automatic weapon capable of
shooting multiple rounds.
